Beds can be a hotbed of stains, from breakfast in bed gone awry to a general build up of sweat. Cleaning your bed sheets and covers can be a challenge. Fortunately Vanish is the best way to take on stains, along with giving you a strategy to keeping things clean.
Changing the sheets
According to several cleaning experts, your bed sheets should be changed every week. This is because, just from simple use, your bed accumulates dirt, sweat and a number of other nasties every time it's used. Over time this build up is simply not sanitary. The body sheds millions of skin cells every day, and since people on average should spend seven to eight hours asleep it's natural that it becomes a place for dust to build. Although rare, dirty bed sheets have been related to several illnesses, including skin problems. Get into a routine of washing your bed sheets weekly and you will also prevent stain build up, so there are plenty of benefits that aren't just health related.
Here are our quick tips to soaking bed linen:
- Bed linen requires soaking, which you can do with Vanish gold (powder or gel). Vanish have specific white and colour varieties, so make sure you're using the right product for the specific colour.
- Whites can be soaked for much longer than colours, so keep that in mind as well.
- Simply fill a basin, bowl or tub with warm water, add clothing to soak, and a scoop of Vanish. Let the clothing sit for a maximum of six hours (for whites).
- Finally, wash your clothes as normal. Hurrah, the stains should be gone!
Now that we've talked about how to remove stains, let's review specific stains your bedding might receive:
Sweat stains are easy to come by, and are quite noticeable especially on white sheets. Not that you should only clean if you see a stain, of course, but if you notice a slightly yellow ring on your pillows or sheets, then you'll have sweat stains. Don't worry though, a soak with Vanish will have them as clean as when you first used them.
Breakfast in bed, or a midnight snack? Food can be a common stain on duvet covers, and can range from juices to chocolate, or tea to eggs. This is a common problem that you can avoid by either snacking with a tray in your bed, or eating foods which are less likely to cause a stain, such as popcorn!
In general, the more activities you use your bed for, the dirtier it will become. We recommend limiting the time you spend on your bed, as well as keeping it clean with a weekly wash (and a monthly hoover!). Keep your bed clean with Vanish.
